Texas Health Steps
Pilot Project with Texas Health and Human Services Commissions
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is conducting a pilot project evaluating the effectiveness of outreach strategies promoting Texas Health Steps (THSteps) services in Texas. THSteps is Medicaid's comprehensive preventive healthcare service for individuals from birth through 20 years of age.
One of the outreach strategies in the pilot is School-Based Outreach. MAXIMUS, as HHSC's Medicaid outreach provider is working with Everman ISD and Mineral Wells ISD during the 2011- 2012 school year to educate staff on services and encourage Medicaid families to take advantage of their THSteps benefits.
The program’s objective is to increase the number of children who receive THSteps medical and dental checkups and educate families on overcoming barriers to utilizing preventative health services.
MAXIMUS staff will serve as a resource to the School District and provide trainings, THSteps materials and any additional support throughout the pilot year. MAXIMUS is seeking to partner with community-based organizations that work with families who receive public assistance.
